Why is subscribing to Sunday Night In a great idea?
Because we’re bringing you the news about South Australian books, theatre and stories the algorithm doesn’t show you. No ads, no clickbait, and it’s free!
if you subscribe, you’ll never miss an update!
Local news is getting harder to find, local news about the arts harder still. Social media has worked really well for the arts for many years. But now? Who has any real idea where it’s heading? Sunday Night In connects South Australian artists with audiences and audiences with artists.
Sunday Night In is curated, written and delivered by me, Tracy Crisp, with occasional appearances from knowledgable friends with good taste.
SOME OF THE MOST-ASKED QUESTIONS AND THEIR ANSWERS
❓Why did you start Sunday Night In?
I started Sunday Night In in 2023 because as an audience member who loves to read new books and see new theatre, I realised I was starting to miss a lot of things like book launches and even entire theatre seasons. Things that I would normally see on facebook or instagram just didn’t show up in my feed.
At the same time, as an artist I was spending a lot of time complaining about hard it is to get the word out about new work and reach new audiences.
So I thought I should spend less energy thinking ‘someone should do a what’s on listing’ and more energy just getting on and doing it. I’m inspired by Simone Tippett’s fabulous printmaking newsletter which covers all things printmaking.
❓What do you include in Sunday Night In?
The focus of Sunday Night In is on books and literature (written words and stories) along with readings and theatre (the performance of words and stories). There’s a particular focus on independent artists and the events they organise. It’s mostly links to artists, books, and performances that I think you might not otherwise hear about. From time to time, there are interviews or reviews. And there’s sometimes a light sprinkling of editorialising by me because I can’t stop myself having opinions 🤣.
❓Why is it called Sunday Night In?
The title Sunday Night In was inspired by an ABC announcement that they were cutting all local news services on Sunday nights. In fact, the day they announced that decision was the day I decided to start my newsletter. They changed their mind, but by then I’d started the newsletter and I liked the name so I kept it.
❓How often do you send it out?
Yeah, look, about that, you’ll see from past issues that it’s a little sporadic. I’m aiming now to send them out a bit more frequently, but make them a bit smaller. Sending them monthly meant they got a bit long. My analysis of the links showed me people really don’t read to the end, and there were almost no links of things at the end of the issue. So I’ll make them more frequent and shorter. But if it doesn’t show up for a little while, it’s not because anything has happened to me, I probably just got distracted by my garden.
❓Anything I can do to help?
I’d love it if you would spread the news. Share this newsletter with your friends, encourage them to subscribe. It’s free!
